Sui breaks $3 resistance: Is a new ATH next?

    • SUI is currently priced above $3, rallying higher following a descending wedge breakout.
    • An ascending triangle pattern on the 4-hour chart signals bullish flip.
    • However, while MACD suggests buyers are in control, the RSI is near overbought territory.

Sui (SUI) has surged to the critical $3 resistance level, breaking above it amid double-digit gains in the past 24 hours.

CoinGecko data shows SUI price trading more than 11% up in this period, with a notable 102% spike in trading volume that hovered around $1.28 billion.

The price gains to intraday highs of $3.05 put the altcoin above a key supply wall, which offered both a psychological and technical barrier in recent weeks.

Notably, Sui ecosystem tokens, including Walrus and DeepBook Protocol, have also surged in the past 24 hours.

Sui eyes gain amid bullish momentum

SUI’s uptick aligns with the broader market spike that pushed Bitcoin to above $109,000 and major altcoins like Ethereum, XRP and Solana higher.

Tailwinds for altcoins helped Sui price, with this coming amid a recent bounce from lows of $2.3.

Robust on-chain fundamentals that have also seen Sui blockchain’s total value locked (TVL) hold above $2.2 billion signal overall confidence in the ecosystem.

Other metrics such as rising stablecoin liquidity and transaction volumes align with bullish momentum.

Sui is also seeing notable growth in developer activity, leading the Move ecosystem.  Sam Blackshear, chief technical officer of Mysten Labs shared this outlook.

The 11% surge has extended SUI’s upward price action over the past two weeks. Sui’s losses in the past month are indeed down to 8%.

    Sui price prediction

With SUI attempting to break above $3, bulls may target key levels of $3.5 and $4 to see the all-time peak above $5.3 reached in January 2025 come into view.

Notably, buyers are upbeat after the token broke out of a descending wedge pattern. That move allowed for a bullish reversal as long bets ramped up.

Additionally, the formation of an ascending triangle pattern on the 4-hour chart has reinforced the bullish outlook. Given this outlook, the $3 level could act as a springboard for potential further gains.

    Sui chart by TradingView

On the technical front, key indicators show buyers are in control.

The Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) shows a bullish crossover, with the histogram suggesting that bulls currently hold the upper hand.

However, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) is trending at 70 and an extended uptick into the overbought territory could signal a potential downturn.

In this case, macro headwinds and profit-taking could mean a short-term flip to support levels around $2.6.

  • Bitcoin breaks $87k; here’s what this analyst says about BTC price

Bitcoin breaks $87k; here’s what this analyst says about BTC price

    • Bitcoin has hit a new high above $87,000 and could bounce past $100,000 amid bullish momentum.
    • If it happens, the bull market case is for a rally to $150k, an analyst says

With Bitcoin rallying to a new all-time high above $87,000, the overall sentiment suggests it’s likely to continue higher. Although a breather could be due, analysts are suggesting this might just be a start of a major bull run for the benchmark crypto asset.

    Bitcoin hits $87k: What next?

BTC rallied higher after breaching $84k amid MicroStrategy’s $2 billion worth of bitcoin purchase. The upward move now sees it trade above $87k. This is after the momentum carried from the past week, which saw Donald Trump become president-elect.

According to crypto analyst Kaleo, the next stop for BTC could be $90k before a brief consolidation. However, this might offer the next upward bounce.

Now, past performance is not an indicator of future gains, the market knows. Nonetheless, crypto analyst Kaleo says should Bitcoin price take a similar trajectory to its previous cycle, it could stall around $90k. This should however be only for a brief period before the upside momentum returns to push bulls beyond $100k.

“When Bitcoin finally made a clean break above the previous cycle’s all time high in December of 2020, it ripped 22% higher without pulling back over the course of several days before it slowed down a bit,” the analyst posted on X. “It spent about [a] week consolidating [there] prior to beginning another 75% up only run over the course of the next few weeks,” he added.

Per the chart the analyst shared, a bull market projection has Bitcoin price at $150k with a 75% breakout. Things may not play out as such, particularly with the market never moving in a straight line. Regardless, the long term view is super bullish for Bitcoin.

“The fun in this bull market is just getting started,” the analyst opined.

  • Bitcoin breaks $82,000 boosted by Trump’s re-election win

Bitcoin breaks $82,000 boosted by Trump’s re-election win

    • Bitcoin’s upward trajectory follows Donald Trump’s presidential win last week
    • Over the past 30 days, Bitcoin has increased in value by more than 30%
    • Institutional interest is rising with Bitcoin ETFs, noted by BlackRock’s IBIT ETF reaching $1.12 billion in daily inflows

Bitcoin has hit another record, reaching over $82,000 on Monday, boosted by Donald Trump’s re-election to the White House last week.

According to data from CoinMarketCap, Bitcoin’s value has risen more than 19% in the past seven days and 30% over the past 30 days. Taking to X, Anthony Pompliano, host of the Pomp podcast, said:

“The first pro-Bitcoin President was elected in US history and Bitcoin hit $80,000 within a week. The market is preparing itself.”

While Trump’s win has helped push crypto prices up, many don’t think it’s the sole reason. In response, Sleep Money Maker said: “Think bigger than one week or one event. We’re watching decades of regulatory friction starting to dissolve. When barriers fall, capital flows – that’s just market physics in action.”

Speaking to CoinJournal last week, James Toledano, COO at Unity, a self-custody crypto wallet, said it was “disingenuous” to say the US election directly caused the price increase.

In the long-term, it won’t be the election that moves the crypto market, but “broader macroeconomic events, technological advancements, shifting market sentiment, and factors outside of the next President’s control,” Toldeano explained.

Institutional appetite for Bitcoin is rising

Institutional interest in Bitcoin has also reached new levels, noted by BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) exchange-traded fund (ETF) bringing in a record $1.12 billion in daily inflows. This followed BlackRock setting a new record in October when its total assets reached $30 billion in 293 days.

Speaking of the recent price rally, Toledano, said:

“There is clearly heightened confidence in Bitcoin as a key investment vehicle and institutional investors are not only recognizing Bitcoin’s resilience as an asset class but are increasingly allocating capital in response to favorable macroeconomic conditions, including recent rate cuts and political shifts.”

Other coins that are rallying include Ethereum, trading over $3,100, Solana, at $216, and Dogecoin, up nearly 158% in the past month at $0.2877.

Bitcoin breaks $75k as crypto celebrates Donald Trump election win

    • Bitcoin spiked to above $75,400, a new all-time high.
    • This came as Donald Trump clinched the US presidency, beating Kamala Harris.

Bitcoin rose to new all-time high above $75,000 as world leaders began to congratulate Donald Trump as the winner and president-elect in the 2024 US election.

As Trump took a decisive lead with key wins in Pennsylvania, Georgia and North Carolina, pushing his Electoral College votes past the 270 mark, Bitcoin price rocketed past $75k to hit a new all-time high above$75,400.

    BTC chart. Source: TradingView

The flagship cryptocurrency has since retraced below $74k, but its sharp surge had over half a billion dollars liquidated. Per Coinglass, 124,734 traders saw their positions liquidated in the past 24 hours, with total liquidations at more than $557 million.

BTC liquidations stood at over $273 million, with more than 70% of that – $211 million – in shorts. Crypto is overall extremely bullish on a Trump presidency and analysts say dips in coming months will offer buy opportunities.

    Trump’s pro-crypto stance

As the election cycle slowly comes to an end, key to the crypto industry is that the most “pro-crypto” candidate has won. World leaders, including Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, India’s Narendra Modi and El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, have all congratulated Trump on his victory.

The US president-elect has also given a victory speech.

But while the market celebrates, what remains to be seen is whether he keeps the pledges he made during the campaign. These include two pledges for “day one” in office: fire US Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Gary Gensler and commute the sentence of Ross Ulbright.

He also said he’d make the US the world’s BTC mining hub, support a strategic Bitcoin reserve effort and never allow the creation of a central bank digital currency (CBDC).

Despite these pledges, industry experts say a Trump White House will be more supportive of crypto in general. The number of pro-crypto Senate and House Representaives has also increased significantly to suggest the road to regulatory clarity has likely opened up.

  • Bitcoin price breaks below $20K amid crypto selloff

Bitcoin price breaks below $20K amid crypto selloff

    • Bitcoin price fell below $20,000 for the first time since November 2022.
    • The top crypto asset by market cap dumped amid broader selloff for cryptocurrencies, largely fueled by negative news.
    • Among other news, the New York Attorney General has sued KuCoin over offering of unregistered securities, with Ethereum named as one of the securities.

Bitcoin price has dropped nearly 10% in the past 24 hours amid negative cryptocurrency news that could yet catalyse further losses.

As the Bitcoin price chart below shows, the value of the leading cryptocurrency by market fell to lows of $19,569 on cryptocurrency exchange Bitstamp.

Bitcoin price fell below $20,000 to hit $19,569 on Bitstamp. Source: TradingView

This after a selloff that began late Thursday extended into Friday morning, with the dump pushing BTC below the psychological support zone of $20,000 for the first time since November 2022 during the FTX dump.

Why Bitcoin and crypto crashed today

As CoinJournal reported early Friday, today’s selling pressure for cryptocurrencies comes after the New York Attorney General sued the crypto exchange Kucoin alleging it sold unregistered securities. The negative news was compounded by the fact that the lawsuit identified Ethereum as one of the securities.

The market’s reaction saw Ethereum price plunge to lows of $1,375 and was down 9.8% at the time of writing.

Overall selloff pressure also follows news that crypto bank Silvergate was winding down. The company’s shares plummeted nearly 50% in the aftermath, with fears of even more damage amid a Silicon Valley “bank run.”

Another headline news likely to have fueled fresh downside for crypto was reports that the US was targeting a new tax on Bitcoin mining. Huobi Token’s flash crash and a security breach on Hedera also added to the broader market bloodbath.

Crypto analyst Miles Deutscher highlighted this confluence of negative triggers, noting that stocks and cryptocurrencies have shed over $2 trillion in market cap over the past 24 hours.

  • Ethereum Classic (ETC/USD) breaks above descending trendline but exercise caution

Ethereum Classic (ETC/USD) breaks above descending trendline but exercise caution

    • Ethereum Classic is up 18% in the week

    • The network has witnessed an increased hash rate

    • Ethereum Classic still faces bear pressure at $19

Ethereum Classic (ETC/USD) has been of bull interest in the last two days. Despite losing by an intraday 1% on Friday, it was still up 18% in the week. A majority of these gains happened on January 04, 2023. The gains pushed the cryptocurrency above a crucial descending trendline that has contained ETC for a while. But how far can ETC gains continue?

Ethereum Classic was tipped for success when Ethereum shifted to the Proof of Stake protocol. Ethereum Classic is itself a Proof of Work protocol. Thus, Ethereum’s shift, also known as the Merge, was expected to push PoW miners to Ethereum Classic. Although initially boosting the price, ETC later crashed as the speculations waned.

The latest ETC gains reignite hopes of miner activity on Ethereum Classic. While the hash rate went downward in December 2022, it started to gain momentum toward the new year. The hash rate improved from 97.5975 TH/s on December 27 to 111.7497 TH/s on December 30, according to CoinWarz data. That could indicate increased miner activity and ETC transactions which boosted prices after the new year. But buyers may need to exercise caution at the current price level.

Bullish ETC still facing bearish pressure despite breakout

    ETC/USD Chart by TradingView

A technical outlook shows momentum has increased strongly for ETC. The MACD indicator is attempting to break above the neutral zone. However, bears are trying to force a correction after ETC reached resistance at $19.

    What to do with ETC?

Despite breaking above the descending trendline, ETC is facing a correction. The price is yet to trade above the previous high.

A break above the $19 resistance is the needed validation to consider further upsides. Investors should only buy ETC if it recovers above $19 with a confirmed bullish momentum. At the current price, ETC still faces a slump back to the $14 bottom price.

  • GMX token (GMX/USD) benefits from FTX collapse and breaks from consolidation

GMX token (GMX/USD) benefits from FTX collapse and breaks from consolidation

    • GMX token has more than doubled in price

    • The DEX has witnessed increased activity in November

    • GMX broke from consolidation and is a buy on a retracement

GMX token (GMX/USD) has doubled in price. Trading at just $25 on November 10, the cryptocurrency touched a high of $59 on December 2. The gains come amid an influx of investors post-FTX collapse. As of press time, GMX was trading at $56.

The collapse of the FTX exchange fueled demand for decentralised exchanges or DEX. Among the DEXs that became popular were GMX and Uniswap. Both platforms saw increased investors’ interest, fueling gains in the native tokens. Yet, on November 28, GMX saw $1.15 million in daily trading fees. The fees surpassed those earned by Uniswap for the first time in history. That underlined that investors look at the lesser-known DEX as a serious rival to Uniswap.

Market analyst Zen commented on the recent performance of GMX compared to Uniswap. The market analyst says GMX’s performance stems from investors receiving favourable trading fees of about 30%. Users on Uniswap do not get shares from the protocol’s trading fees. Zen says that GMX is a buy-and-hold in the bear market. He also lauds the platform as being the second-highest platform consistently after Uniswap.

GMX technical outlook as price aims for the stars

    GMX/USD Chart by TradingView

Technically, GMX broke above a resistance at $49. The cryptocurrency has also been trading on an ascending channel, now invalidated as the price broke out on the upper band.

An RSI reading of 70 suggests that GMX is entering overbought levels. The cryptocurrency is also facing minor resistance, and a correction could occur before the next bull leg.

    When to buy GMX?

A breakout at the crucial resistance and strong fundamentals supports buying GMX. However, from the price action and indicators, GMX could be due for a correction.

A potential price retracement towards $49 is on the horizon. Investors should take advantage of a correction and buy lower.
