Bitcoin wallets dormant for 15 years suddenly move BTC

    • Satoshi era bitcoin wallets dormant since 2009, have just moved 250 BTC to new wallet addresses.
    • The five wallets transfered BTC in batches of 50 coins each.
    • Bitcoin price traded around $63,500, having touched highs above $64,000 across major exchanges.

Several Bitcoin (BTC) miner wallets that have been dormant for over 15 years suddenly woke up and have moved 250 BTC worth over $15 million.

The so-called ‘Satoshi era’ wallets are miner addresses created in the years that Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto actively mined BTC. Such wallets date back to 2009 – five of which just transferred 50 bitcoin each to new addresses.

On-chain transactions tracker Whale Alert highlighted each of the five 50 BTC wallet movements early Sept. 20. In total, five wallets had transferred coins worth $15.9 million to new wallets.

Lookonchain shared a screenshot of Whale Alert’s posts about the dormant coins. In this case, each of the miner addresses received bitcoin as mining rewards in 2009. Not one of these wallets transacted since that first transaction.

Notably, none of the new wallets had moved the coins to a crypto exchange as of writing.

In March 2024, a Bitcoin wallet dormant for over 12 years, suddenly woke up to move 500 BTC. Another wallet dormant for over 10 years, suddenly activated in April 2023.

The movement by these ‘Satoshi era’ BTC wallets come as Bitcoin price recovered to above $64,000 amid market reaction to this week’s Federal Reserve interest rate cut. The benchmarket cryptocurrency has over the past few months struggled to break higher – with a major dip to below $50k seen on August 5, 2024.

Commenting on price outlook, crypto analyst Ali Martinez says its likely traders may want to take profits at current prices.

BTC price tounched highs of $64,140 on Coinbase early Friday, September 20, 2024. However, it changed hands around $63,513 at the time of writing.

  • Bitcoin metric signals volatile $40k-$22k move, analyst says

Bitcoin metric signals volatile $40k-$22k move, analyst says

    • Bitcoin could see a volatile phase within the $40k and $22k price range, James Check, lead on-chain analyst at Glassnode says.
    • BTC’s sell-side risk ratio is approaching an all-time low, with traders on both sides showing exhaustion after recent price action.
    • The flagship crypto traded at $26,400 on Wednesday, about 3% down in the past 24 hours.

On-chain metrics for Bitcoin suggests the flagship cryptocurrency could be looking at massive price moves in the short term.

After struggling to break the $27,600 resistance level following dips from above $28,000, crypto experts have opined BTC could flip to new support. On the other hand, fresh impetus could catapult the asset past its year-to-date high of $31,000.

The outlook is down to on-chain data suggesting traders on both sides are exhausted, Glassnode lead analyst James Check says.

Also going by the pseudonym “Checkmate” on Twitter, the analyst noted:

Bitcoin Sell-side Risk ratio is approaching all-time lows. This indicates that investors are reluctant to spend coins which are in profit, or loss within the current price range. This usually occurs when sellers are exhausted on both sides, suggesting big moves are coming.”

    What next for Bitcoin price?

Realized Profit and Loss metrics provide somewhat an understanding of the Bitcoin market, according to the analyst. It is these indicators that offer BTC price outlook from the point of holders’ sentiment, capital flows and behaviour patterns.

That’s what currently suggests Bitcoin price could be setting up for a prolonged reaccumulation phase.

Bitcoin usually has a 12ish month reaccumulation period after a bottom (if that is indeed what is in place),” Check tweeted.

According to him, Bitcoin price could see some volatile action between the $40k and $22k range. For traders looking for a definite signal, the analyst says it’s largely “directionless.” Checkmate said:

This is somewhat directionless, it suggests volatility is coming. Note that Nov 2018 also saw a very low value. [It] indicates traders are exhausted in this price range, and doesn’t tell us which price range they want to move towards.”

Bitcoin was trading around $26,400 on Wednesday morning 9:53 am ET, and was about 3% down in the past 24 hours.

  • Mysterious Whales Move Trillions of SHIB as Transactions Jump 154%

Mysterious Whales Move Trillions of SHIB as Transactions Jump 154%

According to IntoTheBlock data, Shiba Inu whales, or large holders, got into the action as large transactions rose 154% in the last 24 hours. Large transaction surges are typically linked to increased activity from whales, who are either buying or selling and are often more than $100,000. Most Shiba Inu price moves have often coincided with a spike in large transactions.

According to crypto data tracker WhaleAlert in two lumps, 3,377,867,790,724 SHIB worth $37,375,684 and another 3,914,263,607,418 SHIB worth $42,932,556 were moved in between wallets. Shiba Inu saw a massive spike on Oct. 27 to reach highs of $0.0000118 but has since returned to trade near $0.0000106.

WhaleStats’ analysis of the top 100 Shiba Inu holders also reflected a 50% spike in active addresses as crypto whales interacted with billions of Shiba Inu, leading to an increase in the number of large transactions. The average SHIB balance in this category of whales rose slightly (2.45%) in the last 24 hours.

Shiba Inu also ranked among the top 10 assets in terms of trading volume among the 2,000 biggest ETH whales.

Currently, the top 500 ETH whales are hodling $133,187,605 worth of SHIB. According to CoinMarketCap, Shiba Inu was trading at $0.0000106 at the time of publication, up 1.75% in the last hour and down 3.99% overall in the last 24 hours.

    Shiba Inu gains “hodlers”

According to IntoTheBlock’s data on holder composition by time held, 40% of SHIB holders have “hodled” their tokens for more than a year, 57% have held within a year and 3% have held onto their tokens for less than a month.

As reported previously, the percentage of long-term holders, or “hodlers,” was given at 38% on Oct. 26. The current 40% implies an increase.

  • Shiba Inu Price Prepares for Significant Move Following 23.3M SHIB Burn

Shiba Inu Price Prepares for Significant Move Following 23.3M SHIB Burn

Shiba Inu (SHIB) has been called many names — from ‘Doge killer’ to meme token. Nonetheless, with the SHIB supply shrinking, can demand kick price gains in gear?

On Oct. 25, Shiba Inu’s burn rate spiked by a massive nearly 1800%, according to data from Shibburn.

Despite the SHIB price moving in a narrow range near the $0.0000100 level, there are signs of a break in volatility. This could lead to more significant moves for the token.

    Burning SHIB, breaking barriers

The SHIB burn rate spiked by over 1,800%, with 23 million tokens burned within 24 hours. The recent burn brought the total number of SHIB tokens burnt to 410 trillion.

While burn events aim to decrease the supply, thereby increasing price and demand, it didn’t pan out well for SHIB.

Data from CoinMarketCap presented that 24-hour volumes for SHIB stood at $111 million, an 8.23% fall over the last day.

Additionally, from a social perspective, the weighted sentiment was still negative. Social volumes also oscillated at low levels.

Despite little-to-no retail euphoria and negative weighted sentiment, there is still some hope left for SHIB holders.

    SHIB price volatility storm incoming?

The SHIB price has still been trading close to the $0.000010 level, which has acted as a crucial support/resistance during Q2 and Q3 2022.

The daily RSI was leaning more toward the oversold zone, showing that sellers were dominating the market as trade volumes maintained low levels.

At press time, the SHIB price dropped below the key support level and was trading for $0.000009986.

Nonetheless, SHIB’s volatility oscillated close to its all-time low level noting 35% on the charts. With volatility at such low levels and a larger market looking overheated, the Shiba Inu price could potentially break out of the consolidation it has been stuck in.

A look at IntoTheBlock’s In and Out of Money at Price presented that the next crucial level for SHIB is the $0.000010 mark, where 4.67 trillion SHIB is held by around 9.2K addresses. A fall below this level could lead to further losses pushing the SHIB price down to $0.0000090.

In case of a bullish turnover, the SHIB price could potentially see a push to the $0.0000110 mark.

For now, healthy demand for SHIB from entities such as ETH whales could support a price push. Interestingly, Shiba Inu was still high up on the ETH whales’ holding list, as shown in data from Whale Stats:

Even though ETH whales could support the SHIB price, retail trading momentum and an uptick in volume would be key for Shiba Inu going forward.
