Binance CEO: we’re seeing a “tactical retreat” with crypto “not a reversal”

    • Richard Teng indicated that the crypto market tends to bounce back after major geopolitical events
    • Teng’s remarks come as Bitcoin dropped below $90,000 earlier this week following the news of US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs on Canada and Mexico

What we’re seeing with crypto market prices is a “tactual retreat, not a reversal,” according to Binance’s CEO.

In a series of posts on X, Richard Teng said crypto markets typically bounce back after major events.

“History has shown that crypto markets react to macroeconomic shifts much like traditional assets, but they also bounce back with remarkable resilience,” he said, adding “what we are witnessing now is another short-term tactical retreat, far from a structural decline.”

Bitcoin drops to $87,000 for the first time since November

Teng’s post comes as Bitcoin dropped below $90,000 earlier this week following the news that US President Donald Trump had confirmed trade tariffs on Canada and Mexico.

Speaking to CoinJournal, James Toledano, COO at Unity Wallet, said many believed that Bitcoin’s price would continue rising once Trump entered the White House, adding:

“But the reality is that the price has gone south, likely due to tariff trade wars, fragile peace talks in Eastern Europe, and fears around DeepSeek’s impact on the US tech sector. But this could also just be a momentary lapse of pricing reason.”

Continuing on X, Teng said: “Price movements often overshadow what’s happening beneath the surface, but the core drivers of crypto’s growth remain firmly intact.”

Crypto ETF filings on the rise

According to Teng, the rising number of crypto exchange-traded funds (ETFs) is a good sign for the market.

He added that market cycles come and go, but the fundamental indicators of crypto’s strength are getting stronger.

Earlier this month, the Chicago Board Options Exchange (Cboe) filed four separate filings on behalf of issuers to launch spot XRP ETFs.

Last week, the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) acknowledged 19b-4 filings from Grayscale to list spot Dogecoin and XRP ETFs. More recently, Grayscale filed for a Polkadot ETF, making it the latest crypto ETF application submitted in the past few months.

In October, Bitwise filed an S-1 form with the SEC for an XRP ETF. Similarly, Canary Capital filed for an XRP ETF last year, reflecting its broader strategy of bringing multiple crypto ETFs to the market.

Bitcoin steadies below $17K, but this analyst recommends a key indicator for a reversal

    • Bitcoin was steady below $17,000 on Tuesday

    • A crypto analyst suggests a crossing of price above the 200-day as a bull signal

    • Bitcoin still lacks a directional movement, and further decline is possible

Bitcoin (BTC/USD) traded slightly below $17,000 on Tuesday, initially losing an opportunity to claim $19,000. A technical outlook shows that BTC has successfully defended $16,000 against the bears, signalling a potential reversal zone. But as the price once again stabilises, one key analyst recommends that investors wait for a key bullish signal.

Renowned crypto trader and analyst Kaleo tells Bitcoin enthusiasts to wait for a classic technical indicator for a bull market. According to him, Bitcoin initiates a bull market each time the price crosses above the 200-day moving average. He says although his strategy is simple, it has been a signature indicator on the BTC chart in its last cycles. Kaleo tells his followers to remain patient until the key signal pops up.

But the analyst holds the view that Bitcoin could fall further. He sees a scenario where BTC consolidates and then declines to another low in a bear market. Kaleo says a bullish spike could occur somewhere in June 2023.

BTC gets rejected at the 50-day MA

    BTC/USD Chart by TradingView

On the technical front, BTC is steadying after a correction. The price was rejected at the 50-day MA, with the cryptocurrency lacking a directional bias in a bear market. The RSI has again fallen below the midpoint, signalling the entry of bears or bull exhaustion.

Applying the 200-day MA on the daily chart, BTC trades way below it. It could take several months to see the price crossing above it.

Which way is the BTC price?

From the technical outlook, BTC price could struggle for a while before we see a sustained bullish surge. If, indeed, BTC will become bullish when the price crosses above the 200-day MA, then we could wait longer for it to happen. Still, there is no indication that the bear market is nearing an end, although bulls remain strong at $16,000.

  • What crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen thinks of Bitcoin (BTC/USD) before a reversal occurs

What crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen thinks of Bitcoin (BTC/USD) before a reversal occurs

    • Bitcoin could undergo another Capitulation event around Christmas – Cowen

    • The cryptocurrency is consolidating but lacks an upside momentum

    • BTC price could break into upside or downside

When will Bitcoin price (BTC/USD) bottom-up after slipping below the crucial $19,000 level? Crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen believes Bitcoin has to undergo one capitulation event before a price reversal. Cowen examines the historical patterns to explain when this is likely to occur.

Cowen points out that the final capitulation event will occur around Christmas this year. A capitulation event occurs when a sizable portion of investors succumb to bear pressure and sell their holdings. Capitulation events are characterised by unusually high trading volumes coinciding with sharp price falls. When the price reaches its lowest point, it signals a market bottom that ushers in a bullish move.

Relating to the historical patterns, Cowen says that Bitcoin bear markets last around a year. In 2014, he says, the bear markets lasted 14 months, while in 2018, it was 12 months. Thus, if the current one is to reflect historical patterns, the dates around December 25th, 26th, and 27th, could be.

Bitcoin has been very choppy heading to this important prediction at year-end. Cowen thinks that $15,000 is the balanced price for Bitcoin. The analyst says that the cryptocurrency has to fall below this level to hit bottom. That will prompt attempts to recapture the fair value.

BTC outlook as price consolidates at $16,000

    BTC/USD Chart by TradingView

On the daily chart, Bitcoin is choppy and consolidates around $16,000. The MACD indicator is in the bearish zone. The RSI remains below the midpoint, indicating that the sellers are in control.

    What next for BTC?

Bitcoin lacks a directional bias. Although bulls have continually defended $16,000 successfully, they are unable to take the price higher. That’s despite the recent Fed statement indicating slower rate increases.

With the current choppy trading pattern, Bitcoin can go either way. Just as Cowen predicted, BTC could claim a new bottom. For that to happen, the price must break below the $16,000 support zone.
