Ethereum ascends: institutional pivot and dormant whale moves signal a new era

    • Bit Digital shifts treasury from Bitcoin (BTC) to over 100K ETH.
    • Dormant Ethereum wallets move millions after 10 years.
    • ETH/BTC bull flag hints at a 35% breakout by August.

Ethereum (ETH), the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, is stepping into what many believe could be a transformative phase, marked by growing institutional alignment and renewed on-chain activity from long-dormant whales.

Momentum around the asset has intensified in recent weeks, with fresh technical setups, corporate accumulation, and protocol-level proposals all converging to highlight Ethereum’s evolving position as not just a programmable blockchain but also a premier financial infrastructure layer.

    Dormant giants awaken

Blockchain analysts have spotted multiple early Ethereum wallets springing to life, with some holding “genesis” coins untouched since 2015.

In one case, a wallet that received 900 ETH when the asset traded below $0.50 moved its holdings after nearly a decade, triggering curiosity across the crypto space.

On the same day, another wallet, also tied to Ethereum’s genesis phase, transferred 240 ETH after remaining inactive for exactly 3,630 days.

While the holders are not technically whales by Ethereum’s classification, such movements often reflect either confidence shifts or strategic repositioning, particularly amid market optimism.

The renewed activity echoes a broader pattern across the digital asset space, where legacy Bitcoin wallets have also been reactivating, in some cases after more than 14 years of dormancy.

These sudden moves by early adopters signal that legacy stakeholders are once again paying close attention to Ethereum’s trajectory, especially as it gains ground on Bitcoin in structural and financial terms.

    Institutions turn to Ethereum

Leading this shift is Bit Digital Inc., a Nasdaq-listed company that has effectively gone all-in on Ethereum, making headlines with its aggressive treasury transformation.

According to a publication by the company, it sold 280 BTC and raised $172 million through a public equity offering to accumulate 100,603 ETH, positioning itself as one of the largest corporate Ethereum holders globally.

This dramatic pivot comes alongside the winding down of Bit Digital’s Bitcoin mining operations and the rollout of its Ethereum staking infrastructure, which is already among the most advanced in the institutional market.

CEO Sam Tabar has made it clear that the firm sees Ethereum not just as an asset, but as a foundation for financial reinvention, citing its programmability, staking yield, and growing adoption as core drivers of the shift.

Beyond Bit Digital, other firms like Sharplink Gaming and BitMine are also joining the fray, with BitMine announcing a $250 million ETH acquisition initiative to deepen its exposure.

According to CF Benchmarks, this trend is only expected to accelerate, with institutional ETH and SOL holdings potentially increasing tenfold over the next year.

    Ethereum network stability in focus

Vitalik Buterin, Ethereum’s co-founder, has proposed a new gas cap mechanism to help manage network stress during periods of high demand or spam attacks.

The proposed cap would introduce a ceiling on total gas used per block, aiming to protect network performance by prioritising essential transactions over low-priority activity.

If implemented, this strategy could offer greater consistency during congestion while reducing the impact of fee spikes on smaller or new users.

Such upgrades reflect Ethereum’s maturing ecosystem, especially as developers prepare the protocol for future scaling and broader institutional use.

Ethereum price outlook: technical analysis signals a bullish momentum

At press time, Ethereum is trading at around $2,563, up more than 72% over the past three months, with a market capitalisation exceeding $309 billion.

While ETH remains 47% below its all-time high of $4,878, recent developments, including ETF filings, whale reactivations, and corporate realignment, suggest that investor confidence is building once again.

On the technical front, ETH/BTC is showing signs of a major breakout, forming what analysts identify as a bullish flag pattern on the three-day chart.

Should Ethereum break out from its current range, the ETH/BTC pair could climb by as much as 35%, reaching the 0.031 BTC level by August, a potential signal of altseason.

This comes as the total altcoin market cap tests long-term support, with previous bounces from this trendline often preceding explosive rallies across non-Bitcoin assets.

The return of capital rotation toward Ethereum and other Layer 1 platforms underscores a clear shift in trader sentiment, especially as confidence grows around Ethereum’s upcoming technical upgrades.

If the current bullish momentum holds, this may well mark the beginning of Ethereum’s most important ascent yet.

  • Altcoins signal bullish breakout as Bitcoin nears $100K milestone

Altcoins signal bullish breakout as Bitcoin nears $100K milestone

    • ETH targets $3,200 after breaking trendlines.
    • SOL eyes $230 range with bullish setup.
    • DOGE rises past $0.18 as retail interest grows.

A major shift is unfolding in the cryptocurrency market as Bitcoin edges closer to the $100,000 psychological mark, prompting renewed attention towards altcoins.

With Bitcoin dominance starting to decline, market participants are observing a wave of bullish technical signals across major altcoins.

Coins like Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), Dogecoin (DOGE), and NEAR Protocol (NEAR) are leading what analysts believe may be the early stages of an extended altcoin breakout cycle.

The shift comes after months of sideways movement in both Bitcoin and alternative digital assets.

Traders are interpreting recent consolidations in key altcoins as signs of accumulation.

With bullish chart patterns now forming across higher timeframes, the setup for a widespread breakout appears to be strengthening.

    Bitcoin rally triggers altcoin interest

Bitcoin’s steady climb has captured global headlines, but under the surface, a quieter transition is taking place.

Market watchers are noting a drop in Bitcoin dominance — the measure of Bitcoin’s share in the total crypto market capitalisation — indicating that capital is rotating into the altcoin sector.

This development aligns with patterns seen in previous cycles, where Bitcoin rallies first and is followed by outsized gains in smaller-cap cryptocurrencies.

As a result, several major tokens are now attempting to break above long-term resistance levels that have been intact since the last bull run.

ETH, SOL, DOGE show price strength

Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalisation, has broken above key trendlines and is now targeting the $3,200 zone.

The move is supported by technical indicators pointing to increasing momentum and volume accumulation.

Solana (SOL), which has recovered strongly since the end of 2024, is now targeting the $220–$230 range.

After bouncing from major support zones, SOL has formed an inverse head and shoulders pattern on the daily chart, suggesting a sustained upward push.

Meanwhile, Dogecoin (DOGE), one of the most-watched memecoins, has climbed above $0.18, a key resistance level from its early 2024 highs.

DOGE’s rise is backed by rising social media interest and increased retail trading volume, both considered indicators of speculative momentum.

NEAR, KAS, ADA in breakout zones

NEAR Protocol (NEAR) and Kaspa (KAS) are also flashing bullish setups.

NEAR has broken out of a months-long consolidation and is showing signs of institutional interest.

Technical analysis reveals a breakout from a symmetrical triangle, which often precedes a strong continuation move.

Kaspa (KAS), known for its blockDAG technology and high transaction throughput, is forming a classic bull flag.

If confirmed, the pattern could point to a rapid price acceleration from current levels.

Cardano (ADA) and Sonic (S) are similarly exhibiting accumulation patterns.

ADA is currently testing upper trendlines, while Sonic recently completed a successful retest and breakout.

These moves suggest that altcoins are now attempting to recover a significant portion of their bear market losses, with analysts pointing to the potential for 100–250% rallies, should sentiment hold and Bitcoin remain above critical levels.

    Technicals support a bullish cycle

The latest altcoin rally is not merely speculative. It is backed by technical confirmation on higher timeframes, including weekly charts.

Patterns such as the cup and handle and inverse head and shoulders have formed across several major tokens, a common feature during the early stages of bullish cycles.

The broader implication is that altcoins could retrace around 60% of their previous losses if market momentum continues to improve.

With Bitcoin approaching the $100K mark, this shift in liquidity towards altcoins could mark the beginning of a fresh wave of capital inflows into the broader crypto market.

  • SUI and SEI rally as Bitcoin tops $96K, breakouts signal 2025 highs

SUI and SEI rally as Bitcoin tops $96K, breakouts signal 2025 highs

    • The surge in the altcoins comes amid a broader rally triggered by Bitcoin’s new milestone.
    • The daily chart for SUI reveals a bull flag pattern, often considered a continuation signal for uptrends.
    • After dipping below $0.14 earlier this year, the token has reversed its downtrend.

As Bitcoin pushed past $96,000 this week, it reignited interest across the altcoin market.

Among the tokens gaining significant traction are SUI and SEI, both of which are showing breakout signals following months of gradual upward movement.

With bulls regaining control and wider market sentiment turning optimistic, analysts are now closely watching these two tokens to see if they can test their respective highs in 2025.

Solana, another top-10 cryptocurrency by market cap, has also reclaimed levels above $150, contributing to renewed enthusiasm for smaller tokens like SUI and SEI.

The current price action suggests growing accumulation among traders as technical patterns hint at continued bullish momentum.

SUI’s $4 target comes into play

SUI, the native token of the Layer 1 blockchain developed by Mysten Labs, is showing signs of a breakout from its recent consolidation phase.

After rising 60% in a short span, the token managed to avoid a correction, instead consolidating within a narrow range for more than a week.

This range-bound behaviour has now culminated in a bullish breakout, supported by technical indicators.

The daily chart for SUI reveals a bull flag pattern, often considered a continuation signal for uptrends.

The price is now approaching resistance near the $4 level, which will be the next major test.

Meanwhile, the 50-day moving average has flipped positive, confirming a potential bullish reversal.

The MACD, though showing some decline in buying volume, remains above the zero line.

A golden cross—where the 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day—could also occur in the near term, bolstering the bullish case.

Despite occasional dips in volume, SUI’s price action suggests investor confidence is still intact.

If this trend continues, the token could aim for a new all-time high closer to $7 in 2025, especially if Bitcoin remains above its current support levels.

    SEI bulls eye $0.5 breakout

SEI has also emerged as a strong gainer in the current cycle.

After dipping below $0.14 earlier this year, the token has reversed its downtrend and is forming a pattern of higher highs and higher lows.

More notably, it has broken through the bearish Gaussian Channel on the chart—a move typically interpreted as the beginning of a longer-term uptrend.

Volume indicators, particularly the Chaikin Money Flow (CMF), show a clear uptick in capital inflows into SEI.

The CMF has moved above zero for the first time in weeks, signalling increased investor interest.

With resistance levels at $0.32, $0.40, and $0.44 coming into view, SEI appears poised for further gains.

A move past the $0.48–$0.50 zone, which marks a significant resistance area, could trigger a fresh leg up.

If momentum sustains and market conditions remain favourable, SEI may well be on track to approach the $1 mark by mid-2025.

This would represent a more than 7x gain from its previous lows, making it one of the standout performers of the cycle.

    Technical indicators support further gains

Both tokens are showing confluence across several key indicators. SUI’s RSI remains in neutral territory, leaving room for more upside.

SEI, on the other hand, has just crossed into bullish territory, suggesting its rally may still be in its early phase.

Market watchers are now focusing on the next few days for confirmation of trend continuation.

While external factors such as macroeconomic sentiment, US regulatory decisions, and Bitcoin volatility will continue to influence prices, the charts for SUI and SEI provide a positive technical outlook in the short-to-medium term.

  • Bitcoin hints at sell signal after hitting 3-month high

Bitcoin hints at sell signal after hitting 3-month high

    • Bitcoin price hit $30,369 on Saturday, its highest level since July.
    • While bulls could push higher in coming weeks, the immediate outlook suggests a bearish flip.
    • Crypto analyst Ali points to the TD Sequential indicator as hinting at a sell signal.

Bitcoin price rose to its highest level since July when it broke above $30k to reach highs of $30,369 on Saturday. BTC is indeed looking for its fourth-biggest weekly gains year-to-date.

However, although the benchmark crypto trading around $29,950 at the time of writing, an analyst says further retreat is possible given the potential for a key bearish signal. On the upside, market observers see a flip and weekly candle close above $31k as what bulls need to take control of the prevailing volatility.

    BTC price shows sell signal

According to crypto analyst Ali, the potential for a head-and-shoulders pattern for BTC on the daily chart has received greater attention across the market. And in a chart shared on X on October 22, the analyst points to the possibility of the scenario unfolding given a key bearish signal – the TD Sequential indicator.

Other than the sell signal hinted at after BTC price rose over the past several days, the overextended outlook is added to by the daily RSI that has previously triggered notable pullbacks.

The $BTC daily chart hints at a possible sell signal emerging tomorrow, based on the TD Sequential indicator flashing a green 9 candlestick. Not to mention, the RSI reached 74.21 — a level triggering sharp corrections since March,” Ali wrote on X.

Based on this outlook, the analyst noted:

An impending price correction appears to be on the horizon unless #BTC manages to clock a daily candlestick close above $31,560.”

A flip lower from the current resistance zone, and confirmation of the H&S pattern could mean a retest of immediate support around $28,492. A slight sell-off could also reignite the bearish target of $25k.

The flipside could be catalysed by positive ETF news, with buyers targeting a run to the $40k area.
